For her debut with the Lviv National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, the young conductor Polina Lebedeva chose an ambitious French program, which will begin with Maurice Ravel’s direct and dreamy Suite “My Mother Goose”. Written based on children’s fairy tales, it absorbed as much of the charm and tenderness of Ravel’s music as possible. After all, the composer himself claimed that the idea of the poetry of the world of childhood naturally encouraged him to improve his musical style. Enriching and polishing skills became the goal of writing the play “Rhizome” by contemporary Parisian musician Vincent David. And although most of the composer’s works belong to the last decade, his style is already highly appreciated by modern performers, in particular for the extraordinary “chameleon sound”, which, by changing the timbre and introducing percussion elements, allows the saxophone to achieve an absolutely new sound.

Francis Poulenc’s Symphony, written for the first anniversary of BBC Radio 3, will be a smooth return to the 20th century. The combination of dance genres is harmoniously combined with the characteristic flexibility of the composer’s rhythms. The evening will be completed by the overture “Roman Carnival” by the master of symphonic writing – Hector Berlioz. Even though the original opera “Benvenuto Cellini” was not destined to gain fame, the overture written for it became one of the diamonds of the symphonic music of romanticism.
